Lyrics
Loved before the dawn of time,
Chosen by my Maker,
Hidden in my Saviour,
I am His and He is mine,
Cherished for eternity.
When I’m stained with guilt and sin,
He is there to lift me,
Heal me and forgive me;
Gives me strength to stand again,
Stronger than I was before.
So with every breath that I am given
I will sing salvation’s song;
And I’ll join the chorus of creation
Giving praise to Christ alone.
All the claims of Satan’s curse
Lifted through His offering,
Satisfied through suffering;
All the blessings He deserves
Poured on my unworthy soul.
Singing glory, honour, wisdom, power
To the Lamb upon the throne;
Hallelujah, I will lift Him high.
Hallelujah I will sing
Stars will fade and mountains fall;
Christ will shine forever,
Love’s unfading splendour.
Earth and heaven will bow in awe,
Joining in salvation’s song.
Exploring the wonder of God’s complete and eternal salvation
This song took a while to come together. The various musical elements had been buzzing around in my head, but I was struggling to put it together. But it wasn’t until I worked with friend and ace drummer Andrew Small that the pieces fell into place.
It’s quite contemporary in feel, with a certain gospel influence, but will work equally well with a whole band or a solo piano.
Thematically I was trying to convey the completeness of God’s salvation, and each verse deals with an aspect of the salvation story: belonging to Christ from the beginning of time; receiving His wholeness and forgiveness; Christ’s sacrifice not only freeing us from the curse of sin and death, but bestowing on us every blessing that Christ Himself deserves; and reminding us that this salvation will one day make all things new. There’s a lot to dwell on here!
